THE DOORS LIVE AT THE ISLE OF WIGHT

(2018, 84 mins, MLF/Eagle Rock, Directed by 1970: Murray Lerner • 2017: John Albarian)

When the Doors came to the UK to play at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 it was at a pivotal moment in the band's history. In the short three years since they broke on through to the other side of audience awareness with their debut album and single they had become one of the world's most acclaimed bands. However unlike their first UK visit in 1968 when they appeared triumphant at London's famed Roundhouse, this trip came when there was the enormous shadow across Jim Morrison of his impending Florida trial for alleged indecent exposure. The Doors performance at the Isle of Wight was intense and brooding. Morrison was in introspective mood so his movement was limited but powerful. As keyboardist Ray Manzarek later remarked "Dionysus had been shackled..." it had been one of Murray Lerner's remaining ambitions to make a Doors film from his 1970 footage - but it was not to be. Murray had a stroke in 2017. This 2018 film is edited and directed by John Albarian - composed entirely of the footage that Murray Lerner shot and directed in 1970.

LISTENING TO YOU: THE WHO LIVE AT THE ISLE OF WIGHT

(1998, 83 mins, MLF/Eagle Rock, Directed by Murray Lerner)

Three years after their historic US breakthrough appearance at the 1967 Monterey Festival, and one year after their triumphant performances at the two iconic festivals of 1969 - Woodstock and the Isle Of Wight - The Who were booked to return as one of the headline acts at the 1970 Isle Of Wight Festival. It was a superb performance with the band at their absolute peak. No finer celluloid record exists of the band than this film directed by Murray Lerner. The film features digitally-restored picture and mind-blowing remixed audio.

THIS IS THE END: MINI-DOC ABOUT THE DOORS

(2018, 17 mins, MLF/Eagle Rock, Directed by John Albarian)

In anticipation of making a film about the Doors using the footage he shot and directed in 1970 at the Isle of Wight Festival, a few years back Murray Lerner set about interviewing the three surviving members of The Doors in order to gain insight into the Doors' performance at the Isle of Wight festival and the mind-set of the band at the time of the event. Using the skillful interviewing technique that he had developed over the decades he elicited illuminating perspectives from Ray Manzarek, John Densmore and Robby Krieger about the festival and about the circumstances of the Miami concert that had led to Jim Morrison's arrest and prosecution in 1969 that caast a shadow over Jim Morrison at the time of the Isle of Wight Festival. Also interviewed was the band's then-manager Bill Siddons. All of Murray's interviews were drawn on for this mini-documentary completed by John Albarian.
